Day 5 - Lake Thomas to WAA Line

Day 5 of the trip and the third day in the desert started cold but we woke to an amazing desert sunrise.  It was -3 degrees celcius and we were hidden below dunes so had to wait for a while before the sun started to warm up.  We had decided on a slow start after a long days drive yesterday.

Note to self, we were on a schedule to have three nights and four days to cross the desert, but it was just a bit rushed.  It would be easy to take it easy and spend an extra night on the crossing.  Not sure I understand people rushing across and trying to do the crossing in a day.

So after a late start we headed west on the French Line until we found the start of the Knolls Track which heads south past the Approdina Knolls (hence the name of the track).  On our last trip we went to visit the Approdina Knolls and then came back to the French Line and camped at Lake Tamlyn so this is the first time travelling south of the Knolls and the WAA Line.  There isn't much difference in length to this track, but it is supposed to be the trail less travelled and therefore less cutup than the French Line.

I can't speak to the truth of that as we encountered lots of groups of this track and had to lower my tyre pressure on the WAA line to float around some very large holes that even the FJ struggled to get through and needed to drop into low range with diff lockers to plough through.

We were watching the nicks in my side walls with a bit of concern given the low tyre pressures I was running to date and made the call to increase my pressure to lessen the chance of the tears getting any larger.

As it turned out, we needn't have been concerned and increasing my tyre pressure made the going a bit harder on day 3, with one of the dunes getting very software and cut up requiring a second attempt with lowered pressure.
